Workplace safety is a hot topic in Australia. We have some of the most stringent rules and regulations of any western country when it comes to being complaint. We’re fortunate to live in a country where workplace safety is taken seriously, but it can also lead to stress when managers are making sure that they are complaint.
One stipulation is how many staff members trained in first aid you must have on site. You must meet the minimum requirments based on your workplace and its risks. For example, with more staff, you will require more first aid officers. You must also consider whether your workplace is high risk or low risk. This can depend on the type of work that is being undertaken, the location of that work and the number of staff.
You must supply your staff with first aid kits that are stocked and easy to access. They should be stored in a clearly marked area where there is a higher risk of injury. All staff members should know where it is located. One aspect you must consider is whether you should have a mobile or fixed first aid kit. That is, one that is fixed to the wall or one that can be taken to the scene of an accident. There are benefits to both options and the one you should go with depends on your circumstances. Vehicle kits should also be issued to staff members if they are expected to travel while performing their duties.
Most people know that to remain WHS compliant you must replenish the first aid kits used stock in a timely manner. What a lot of people do not know is that many first aid products expire – such as eye wash ampoules, creams and some bandages. You must audit your first aid kits to remove and replace any expired products.
Sanokil can take some of the stress away from reaching your WHS requirements. We supply a range of first aid kits that are fully serviced. That means that we replenish used and out of date stock at no additional cost! We audit your first aid kit on a regular basis to do this.
